AON colleagues at the Bloemfontein branch spent a morning for Mandela Day at Lerato Day Care Centre where they donated party packs to each child as well as custom clothes bags made up of a few items of clothes, a colouring book and crayons. Before their departure, the AON colleagues enjoyed a warm lunch with the children and staff.
Checkers Westdene reached out to residents of Jean Webber Home on Mandela Day and spoiled them with cake.The Jean Webber Home forms part of APD Free State, an organisation for persons with disabilities. It is a unique residential empowerment facility for persons with severe physical disabilities. The facility provides a home for 37 people who need physical support for the most essential activities of daily living.
The youngest resident is Basie de Beer, 24 years, and the oldest Chabane Chabane, who has been part of Jean Webber for almost 20 years. The Bloemfontein Vodacom team joined forces to celebrate 67 minutes for Mandela by competing in packing the most food parcels for disadvantaged families. At the end of the challenge, hundreds of buckets had been packed, sealed and made ready for distribution. Bloem Show personnel did their bit for Madiba on Friday morning by visiting Sunflower House and distributing blankets and lucky packets to all the children residing there. Warm soup and bread were also served to the staff in appreciation for all their efforts and their role in uplifting the wellbeing and quality of life for the residents at the hospice. This act of kindness was also extended to all the car guards at Showgate, Fleurdal and Game Centres where warm soup and bread were handed out as a token of appreciation for the challenging work they face daily. Ocean Basket en Braza het vis en tjips asook hamburgers onderskeidelik aan Omega-ouetehuis en Heidedal Safe Park geskenk, terwyl Continental Beverages aan Talitha Cumi se kinders ‘n verskeidenheid produkte en lekkernye geskenk het. ‘n Vereniging van die CCMA het ‘n bejaarde (me. Xelitsha) besoek, artikels geskenk, haar huis skoongemaak en wasgoed gewas.
Ten bate van Mandela Dag het Phatshoane Henney Prokureurs meer as 400 blikkies kos en ander nie-bederfbare voedsel aan die Universiteit van die Vrystaat se No Student Hungry (NSH) Beursprogram geskenk. Hier is, van links, Neo Madlala, Juanita van Zyl, Corlia de Beer, Hermann Fourie en Adriaan Janse van Rensburg van Phatshoane Henney Prokureurs, wat ook die NSH Extreme Challenge gewen het.
Vrystaat Landbou, OVK en Free State RPO het hulle Mandeladag by Feed a Child in Wepener gevier waar sowat 300 kinders byeengekom het en op worsbroodjies en lekkernye getrakteer is. Sowat 500 kinders word daagliks deur die projek gevoer en die vraag na hulp van die gemeenskap is groot. Hier is van die kinders saam met landbouers op dié dag.
